where are your manners?

i feel like as time goes on manners and etiquette just seem to get worse. I don't know about you but having good manners was something that my sister & I were taught very early on & its something that has stayed with us our entire lives...I can proudly say I have wonderful manners & it drives me crazy that the kids nowadays just seem to lack it.

It got me thinking, there are just certain things in life no matter what we should always do, like say thank you or open a door for others....so i put together a small list of things I think no matter what are ALWAYS a good idea ----

Be polite

Have a sober driver

Listen

Floss

Wash your hands after the bathroom

Cover your mouth when u cough

Replace the toilet paper roll if you finish it off

Hold the door open for someone

Help others

Eat your veggies

Say I love you

Have 'me' time

Respect your elders

Be honest

Admit when you're wrong

Tip your server

Listen before you judge

what are some things you think people should always do?

Another thing that I think people should always do is be open to meeting new people, which is why blogging is so great because its a wonderful way for us to meet new people and learn about how others live....& today I have a girl who I have really enjoyed getting to know through blogging. I think what impresses me the most about her is how she teaches HIGH SCHOOL. I love kids don't get me wrong, but teaching high school is a whole other world. I really enjoy reading about her classes and what she does with her students. She's so full of life and I can tell she is so much fun to be around. So without further ado meet ---

I'm Bonnie and writing nonsense is my game. Sometimes I get in trouble for what I write, but that's just the way the cookie crumbles. Some call me Bonnarrhea and some call me Bon Bon Sexy Pants, but you can just call me Bonnie. Or Bon. Whatevs.

I write over at Life of Bon where life is always a party. The husband's name is Greg and I've been told I would be a fool for letting the internet Gods know my husband's name because now they can steal our identities and invade our home, GASP!

Therefore, to protect us from cyber devils and because it seems somehow hip I have named him Hubs. During the day I teach high school English to ungrateful seventeen year olds who have somehow completely stolen my heart. Ain't that always the way it is with ingrates?!?

I'm an avid reader, a hopeless romantic, and a terrible driver. (I once got two speeding tickets in twenty minutes- ouch!) I write mostly about failed attempts to yank underwear off of mannequins, awkward visits to gynecologists, and absurd things that come out of the mouths of the hoodlum students.

This is me with a lot of differnt hairstyles.  Truly riveting, I know!

Bloggers or Vloggers:  Bloggers!  I'm all about quality writing.

Super Rich but Dumb or Super Smart & Poor.  I'll take a combination of the two...  Dumb and Poor... er... I mean rich and smart baby!

Wine or Vodka.  Uh.  Diet Coke?  I'm not a drinker... us crazy Mormons!

Josh Dumel or Ben Affleck.  Ben Affleck

Thong or Booty Shorts.  Thong.  (I am praying my students don't somehow find this and read it.)

Ellen or Oprah.  Ellen, obvi!

Taylor Swift or Carrie Underwood  Carrie Underwood.  Before He Cheats should be the personal anthem of every American woman!

Pierced nose or pierced lip.  Nose

Sex or foreplay.  Who says I can't have both?

California or New York:  Cali.  Hello sun.

Sleep in PJS or Naked:  Pjs all the way.  I live in Utah.  I would freeze if I slept in the nude!

Isn't she so fun?! And don't you just love her hair color collage!? A girl after my own heart...so because Bonnie is basically the coolest teacher ever, she is giving away a $25 Gift Card to FOREVER 21!!!! And right now, Forever 21 has such aaaamazing stuff....so lucky you

oh ya....the winners of my Blog Birthday Giveaway Are..........

I really enjoy your posts!!! I agree on the lack of manners in the younger generation these days!!! I think being a better listener is something I strive for each day...since I have great friends and family who always listen to me ;-)

Thanks for sharing,

That list of manners is perfect and I try to do those things daily (or when necessary)...I'm definitely not perfect, but I try! :)

I completely agree with Haley! And I think people should cover their mouths while yawning. Say excuse me when trying to get by. And absolutely STAY OFF THE PHONE while out to lunch/dinner.

I love this post so so so so much!!

I correct my kids when they don't say "please" or "thank you" and I've had people say "oh it's okay" to me when I tell the kids to say thank you and I'm like "no. It's not! guys, say 'thank you'. They know how to use their manners" and smile at whoever, but I get shocked EVERY TIME someone says that! NO IT'S NOT OKAY! Yes they're kids but they KNOW their manners so just let me remind MY children to USE THEIR MANNERS! I get that you're trying to be nice and I appreciate that but psht. THANK YOU goes a long way.

And really, more people should just smile and say hello as they pass people! A smile goes a long way!!

Great post! It does seem like manners and respect have totally gone out the window. Like you, I was taught from a young age to say please and thank you, say hello and good-bye, show kindness, hold doors, etc. But one thing that I truly believe needs to be added to that list is covering your mouth when you cough and shielding your sneezes. I see people openly sneeze and cough all the time! It grosses me out.

Manners are really falling by the wayside these days. I admit...sometimes I'm in such a hurry I don't hold the door for people - gasp! Another thing I think people should always do is keep an open mind. No one is perfect, and everyone has an opinion. Doesn't mean it's right or wrong, it just is. I think we learn the most when we take others' perspectives even if it doesn't change our view.

Congrats to the giveaway winners! And I really should read Bonnie's blog more. Funny, funny!

I agree about the manners!

Speaking of, thank you for announcing your giveaway winners! It's so annoying when other bloggers take SO long or never announce the winners. It definitely makes me NOT want to participate in there giveaways! So I appreciate (& I'm sure others do to) the fact that you actually announce yours! :)

Hope you have a great day!

People should ALWAYS say thank you! It's such a simple thing to do, and yet something that comes pretty hard for some people, for some reason!!

Love this post!!

You should always
-say please and thank you.
-think before you speak.
-get enough sleep.

Yep, def adding...say thank you! Yesterday, a woman left me with such a powerful impression all because she used the words "thank you". She'd lived a life of hell and while she may have forgotten her own value, she never forgot the value in manners!

I totally agree with everything on that list... except maybe eat your veggies. Really? Do we have to?!? ;) lol.

Ugh. Not just KIDS, but ADULTS. I am amazed at the rudeness of adults. I feel petty still stewing over it, but the other day at Target, my husband was coming around the corner of an aisle, and I was ahead of him and saw a lady coming across the other way. He snuck forward and said, "Oh, excuse me!" and she ROLLED HER EYES and walked past first with her cart. He stopped and let her go first, was polite, and she rolled her eyes? Not only that, but her husband was behind with their 2nd child in another cart, and was coming next. My hubby came forward, thinking she was the only one, and when he saw the guy, said, "Oh, sorry!" and the guy said nothing, looked in the opposite direction, and just went past.

I couldn't help but say out loud, "Oh, thank you." How hard is it to say, "It's okay." or, "Thanks!" when someone lets you walk past? I mean, at least nix the eye rolling...what for?

Sorry. I just shared my craziness with you. ;) But I'm there with you...I was taught what I feel is uh, pretty basic manners...but so many people seem to lack them.

Sometimes adults are the worst offenders! Manners are so important and I loved this post. You should always be grateful for today, because no one is promised tomorrow.

Opening doors for mothers with strollers! I never realized how few people do this! HELLO! Does it look like I'm struggling? Probably b/c I am, have a heart, lend a hand!

I also think that people in the service industry should greet people properly. For example, when you walk up to a register/help desk don't just sit there and look at me, say hello, hi, how are you, SOMETHING! UGH.

End rant.

i think kids and everyone else need to remember to tell the truth, no matter what, even if you are afraid..

and pleases and thank yous..

and to just deal with hearing the word "no".. it's not the end of the world

People should always .... SMILE AT STRANGERS

I completely agree with you. There are no more manners. The problem is that kids aren't taught manners anymore. I am very hard on my son and please and thank you is very important. Having no manners isn't acceptable in my house. The problem lies with the parents not teaching their kids manners and not holding them accountable for the way the behave. NO manners is a huge pet peeve of mine. It won't kill people to smile, say please and thank you. Some people won't even say hi anymore. What about holding the door open or when you let someone in, what ever happened to the thank you wave. Oh don't get me started on lack of manners. Great post.

Pick up after yo self! I think that is a must with manners. It is inconsiderate to leave your mess, trash, or trappings for someone else to deal with. Not good.

Say Excuse Me and Thank you. I don't know if it's me, but nobody uses that anymore, and will plow into me, without apologizing or saying excuse me.

Holding the door open. If someone is right behind you don't fling the door open and walk through it so it slams in the person behind you face. Count how many times that happens. :/ I'm cute, I don't get why people won't hold the door for me?!
