embracing your imperfections

In the early 16th century, a full-figured woman was considered the epitome of sexy. Being natural (messy, if you will) was prized. The Renaissance saw blondes with ivory skin and deep red lips.
Full-figured women were admired and painted on large canvases in order to celebrate and preserve their loveliness.

Throughout the decades, as trends come and go, girls, ladies and women are starting to understand the size of your breasts, the length of your hair or the gap in your teeth...none of it matters. Beauty is an aura and an energy. Understanding and embracing that concept makes what others might consider "flaws," sexy. Take it from these celebrities that refuse to conform to the jaded.

Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet, our lady of "Titanic," has this ethereal glow about her. She's constant in her weight and typically doesn't fluctuate more than a few sizes for movie roles. She's a beautiful woman, curvy and normal. The Oscar-winning screen goddess loves her body now but had to struggle being scrutinized by the public for a few years, she told Vanity Fair Italy in 2011. It took some time for her to accept herself but now, she loves her look. She's curvalicious!

Anna Paquin

There are many reasons Anna Paquin has been in the spotlight since 1993 (when she was 11 years old). Most recently, it is the HBO series, "True Blood" and the "X-Men" series ("X-Men: Days of Future Past" is currently filming). She is a pretty, classy, petite woman who keeps her personal life out of the tabloids.

When you think of Anna Paquin, the first thing that comes to mind are those big browns and that cute gap in the middle of her teeth. It makes her completely recognizable and unique. She has no plans on changing this little quirk. Sookie, you're sensational.

Robyn Lawley

Shopping for the perfect bathing suits can be one of those things that takes your self confidence and throws it right down the Dillard's escalator. Thank goodness for Robyn Lawley. This plus-size model has opened the door for regular women to get cute swimwear that fit their actual body shape. Have a large bust? No problem, clothing stores and fashion labels realize this and make a wearable 38DD so you can flaunt your stuff at the pool without wearing a swim dress. Unless, of course, that is what you prefer... then work that swim dress girl.

Adele

There are a growing number of women celebs making a stand to promote a positive body image. This includes celebrating their natural curves like they did in the Renaissance. While they promote eating healthy and staying active, there's a certain sexiness to a woman who has that inner confidence to not listen to chatter. English pop diva, Adele, makes no apologies for her voluptuous stature. In fact, she has no interest in being a stereotypical magazine model.

The key is to be happy with yourself and appreciate yourself. We love you, Adele.

I love this post! I find it sickening how many girls feel the need to look a certain way in order to feel attractive. I've always believed that a women can be drop dead gorgeous at any height or weight.

Terrific post and amazing women who epitomize the idea of 'love yourself as you are'. I need to re-read this when I start to feel down about myself and remember that I am beautiful :)

Great post!! I have struggled with an eating disorder for 12 years and I've come a long way, but I still get down on myself and have times where I go on crash diets, starve myself, and treat my body terribly ALL because of a picture in a magazine.
All women are gorgeous creatures. There is nothing sexier than the female body with it's curves and softness. If we would ALL put the same amount of energy into lifting each other up and encouraging one another as we do standing in front of the mirror picking out what we don't like about ourselves, then I truly believe that we could change the world.
xo!!

Great post lady :) We forget that our imperfections are US and a part of our definition. My daughter is 5 and already picking up on society's fitness cues....She can name over 5 types of diet pills and products just from TV!!! I would love if you would share this with other beauty bloggers at the Friendly Bunch bloghop....http://www.ffflinkypals.blogspot.com/2013/08/the-friendly-bunch-blog-hop-beauty.html

Awesome post. I am constantly working at being happy where I am. It's tough, but learning to love and accept myself for everything I am has been a great journey.

This is why I love blogging. Relateable women and relateable posts. I'm 5'4 and 130 lbs. You better beleive I'm curvy and proud of it. I'm curvy and have learned to love it so much as I'm older.

Kate Winslet is hot and my fiance agrees. Miley last night looked gross. Her bones were showing. That is not attractive and most men want some meat. It's sexy.

Perfection doesnt exist and neither does the hottest woman. There will always be someone prettier than you. Embrace yourself and love who you are.

Another good one to add to the list is Jennifer Lawrence. They are who they are and don't make apologies. I love that. It's so crazy how things have changed-and for the worse-over time. Bikini shopping has been horrid for me; and it shouldn't be.

What a great post. Thank you so much for including Kate Winslet. She's been such a role model for me ever since I saw her in Titanic when I was 4. I love her talent but mostly I love the pride she has in herself and who she is as a woman. Her body is flawless and so is her confidence.

Awesome post :)

I have a gap in my teeth and I love it! I also used to get told that I looked like Anna Paquin when she had blonde hair on the show, but I didn't take it as a compliment other than the gap, hehe.
