Preparing Your Summer Skincare Routine

Are you ready for the summer heat? Maybe you have a vacation planned on an exotic beach in the Bahamas, or you're planning to stay home and take a road trip for the staycation of a lifetime. Either way, you need to think about your summer skincare routine and buy the right products so your skin can stay hydrated and glowing throughout the summer days.

Exfoliate Regularly

Most skin experts recommend exfoliating your skin, but you need to find the balance. Exfoliating clears away a lot of the dirt and grime in your pores allowing your skin to breathe and preventing blemishes, but if you exfoliate too much in summer it can leave your skin exposed to sunlight.

Still, don’t give up exfoliating in the summer, simply reduce the amount of exfoliation and avoid it completely before you head into the sun or to the sun bed. If you like exfoliating you can choose from skin rubs, shower gels, and more dedicated treatments at a spa or skincare facility nearby.

Use Sunscreen

As you know already you need to wear high factor sunscreen these days in the summer to prevent your skin from burning and ricking skin cancer. But there are other reasons for wearing sunscreen, especially if you are skin conscious. Sunscreen prevents damage to the dermis.

Sunlight is harmful to the skin because it penetrates the outer layer of skin easily and goes to the deeper layers underneath. It’s there that the UV rays cause damage to the cells. This leads to premature wrinkles and aging. To protect your skin this summer use sunscreen that’s SPF30.

Stay Hydrated

One of the reasons your skin starts to look dry and cracked in the winter is because the air is dry and reduces the amount of water in the layers of the dermis. In summer, as in winter, it’s good practice to stay hydrated so that your skin stays elastic and makes you look yourself.

Obviously, the temperature is much warmer in the summer and you perspire more often, for this reason, you need to drink four or five glasses of water a day you restore the moisture lost through sweating. Ensure you carry a water bottle in summer as part of your skincare routine.

Use Treatments

Do you have a skin condition such as acne? If you do you need to pay close attention to your skincare routine in the summer. You also need to know what you're doing when it comes to exposing skin with acne to the sun because too much exposure can cause long-term scarring.

There’s a misperception that strong sunlight is good for acne. If you venture into the sun with acne skin it does heal in the short term, that’s because the UV rays zap acne bacteria, but long term it causes acne scars. Find out about the best treatment for acne scars and enjoy summer.

Avoid Makeup

There’s no reason to avoid makeup in the summer but it’s a good idea to reduce it, when you wear makeup it makes it more difficult to also wear sunscreen and moisturizer, so you can’t protect your skin properly. Also, the UV rays can easily penetrate makeup and damage the skin.
