let's boycott Target!

via

okay so moving on from that.....but really I don't hate Mondays at all. I get to babysit the best kids ever all day every Monday so really it's a happy day for me....that's more for everyone on their way or at the office. Buttttt it is Thanksgiving Week so you all get a shorter week......I really hope everyone has a little time off to spend with their loved ones.

So have you heard that Target is now going to be open on Thanksgiving?! I knew this was going to happen. Last year I remember telling the BF eventually it's gonna be BLACK THURSDAY! But seriously Target that is so awful you're making your employees come in on a Holiday. It's just not fair.....& to be honest, anyone who actually goes into Target to shop on Thanksgiving.....really? Give it a rest. You can't wait until Friday? You just HAVE to shop. Don't get me wrong I am just as obsessed with Target as the next person but this is just too much.

So I propose we boycott Target being open on Thanksgiving & not shop there on the Holiday so that hopefully it will back fire & won't happen again next year. I know i'm getting all heated about something that doesn't even affect me, but I just believe in everybody having time off during the holidays. Everybody needs a break.

However, I can't hate on Target too much today because boy did I score some aaamazing stuff over the weekend....so thank you Target for that.

Big Sparkly bow @ Target

Other than my fabulous Target shopping experience I babysat, caught up on some blog design & made a few more Messy Bracelets! I am now selling Messy Bracelets with Charms - contact me if you're interested....

Left - 'Embrace the Mess w/ Crown Charm' Right - 'Messy Girl' w/ Peace Sign Charm

and I got some pretty awesome mail over the weekend too from my penpal Holly. She is seriously one of the sweetest people ever & is SO thoughtful. I can't wait to show you the fabulous 'favorite things' package she sent me!

but today I have a very cool girl here. She has been around the mess before & she is a Certified Messy Girl. She writes a hilarious blog that will leave you laughing out loud. Some of the stuff she comes up with just crack me up ---> ask her about P.I.P.

But besides her fabulous sense of humor she is such a great person & friend. She is so supportive of other blogs & was one of the first people to purchase a messy bracelet. She truly cares about helping others....funny, supportive & a great friend...what more could you ask for?! So without further ado meet

Well hello Kelly and Messy.Dirty.Hair lovers!  I'm baaacckkk! haha. I'm Mia and I blog over at The Chronicles of Chaos! And I seriously love being here, so you guys better get used to seeing me. I'm like that creepy girl from Wedding Crashers.....

OK, seriously, I'm not that bad. Promise. I blog about the crazy, chaotic shenanigans of my life with my hubby, 2 boys under 4, working full-time, with lots of coffee and no sleep! :)  I really, truly love meeting new people, so please stop by and say hi!

What are you most looking forward to this holiday season?

I'm so looking forward to Thanksgiving!  It's my all-time favorite holiday.  My dad and I are really close and it's a tradition to have Thanksgiving together every year and just watching football and stuffing our faces. :) And 3 words: sweet. potato. casserole. Swoon!

What 3 things are you thankful for?

-My family (of course!)

-COFFEE - it's seriously a lifesaver for me. I'm not sure I could survive otherwise. You should see me in the mornings before that first cup. {shudder}

- Target. I could live there. I might as well since I'm there so often!

What do you like most about blogging?

The friendships! I've met so many great people through blogging that I know I would never meet in "real" life because we all live in different places.  But we all have so many things in common and I just love the support from the blogging community (and Twitter!).

I told you she was funny. Sooooo today Mia is giving away a $25 VISA CARD & 1 Month Ad Space!!!! I know we can all use as much extra cash as possible with the holidays here, so thank you Mia for this fabulous giveaway!!!

I do love Target...but WHY are they doing this??!

Yep! I think Wal-Mart is starting on Thursday night instead of early Friday morning.
Everyone needs a break! Agreed!!!

It's sad because companies wouldn't be opened on those days if they didn't see a profit! which means that the marketing peeps found it would be profitable!

Oh Target. It's hard for me to hate..but you're right. I remember working retail back in the day and while it wasn't there..I HATED being away from my fam for the holiday. Shame on you targ!

I am loving your blog! I love that you embrace the mess of life :)!

My favorite Thanksgiving dish is Stuffing I LOVE LOVE LOVE stuffing!

Least Favorite: Jello Salad (my grandma used to make orange jello with shredded carrots!)

=) Happy Thanksgiving pretty lady!

I love Target, but I will totally agree to boycott it with you for the sake of Thanksgiving. Along with Walmart and any other store who chooses to be open on a national holiday, forcing their underpaid employees to come in and miss out on family time. HATE that they're doing this this year! I hope enough people do this that the stores realize it wasn't worth it and quit opening earlier and earlier every year. It makes my heart hurt that Thanksgiving is getting erased for shopping:(

My favorite Thanksgiving dish is the dressing!! My least favorite dish is pea salad...YUCK!!!

Girl I am SO with you on this one! I think it's ridiculous that they're open on the same day people are supposed to be with their families and friends being grateful. It makes me mad, too, even though I don't work at Target, or plan on going. It's the principle of the matter!! Thanks for sharing :) And yes, I do still love it for things like big glittery bows :)

So much to say!

1) Target is just jumping on the bandwagon with everyone else. It's sad. Walmart "opens" at 8pm this year. My mom's store opens at 8pm as well. I used to loooove Black Friday, you know, when it actually took place on Friday. We'd be up and out at 2am and it was so fun. Now, it's ruined.

2) I think the Messy Girl Giveaway is a good idea. If not every month an least every other.

3) I live for cranberry and mashed spuds for Thanksgiving. I despise stuffing. It's a texture thing. Squishy bread grosses me out. =]

I love anything with potatoes...mashed or otherwise! My least fav is green beans.

You should do the Messy Project giveaway again :)

I love target but I refuse to shop on black friday because of the chaos that it has turned into. I'm pretty much done with christmas shopping anyway. I'd rather spend more money than deal with the crazy.

So sad target is opening on thanksgiving! So is Walmart! Wack.

My favorite is pumpkin pie!

I agree that people should NOT have to work on the holidays, but unfortunately, there are so many people that just don't give a shit that boycotting won't affect it. So sad.

Courtney said...

I totally agree that Target shouldn't open on Thanksgiving so that their employees can have family time!!

Haley Wishall said...

COULD NOT agree more!! It's flat-out ridiculous. All stores open on Thanksgiving should be ashamed of themselves...def. boycotting it!

Kathrin@shopschoolsleep said...

I'm so in...boycott of all stores open on Thanksgiving!! Let's call this boycott "One Holiday at a Time" and let's plaster Nordstrom's letter to their customers to all other stores!! With that said, I heart Target a lot too and the bow you got looks so cute haha a

Nikki said...

I think it is HORRIBLE that stores will be open at all on Thanksgiving Day! Seriously first people start decorating for Christmas BEFORE Thanksgiving and now they wanna go shopping on Thanksgiving. It's freaking amazing how many people forget the meaning of Thanksgiving. Take time and enjoy your family and all you have to be thankful for. Jebus people!

Unknown said...

It is totally ridiculous. I hope the people that have to work at least get Holiday pay or something! Thanksgiving should be about spending time with family and eating yummy food.

Unknown said...

So True!! I feel just awful for all the people working on the holiday.. I tell you one thing they better be making Double Overtime if anything!
Love your cute bow too--- oh how we're torn in a love hate relationship with the great target :)

i do agree that it is pretty shitty that they (and walmart) are open on thanksgiving day...and I will not be going there thursday...or friday for that matter...for lack of a death wish lol I really like your sparkly bow...I am thinking this means a safe, leisurely and sorta pricey Target trip is in my future on Wednesday...haha

Niki {Glossy Blonde} said...

First can I say that that is SO crappy of Target to make their employees come in on Thanksgiving! Ugh.

Anyway, my fave Thanksgiving dish is homemade cranberry sauce. My least fave is stuffing!

Niki {Glossy Blonde} said...

And about the Messy Project giveaway - yes yes yes! I'm dying to know who won!!!

Amber Nicole said...

Are you serious about Target being open ON thanksgiving?! That's freakin' horrible!!! Anyone that goes shopping that day is just whacko!!
I feel so bad for the people that have to work!!

And my fav dish: Duh, turkey!!
Least fav: most pies honestly. I'm not a big pie fan.

Myranda said...

Super LAME that Target is open on Thursday I am NOT going.
Favorite dish would be mashed potatos
least favorite would be stuffing, yuck!

Unknown said...

love that bow!

Raquel said...

I love Target but i'm really disappointed on them for making people work on thanksgiving. One of the very few days that retail workers get off...so not fair!

They should go on strike

Martha Hokenson said...

I work at Walmart and we are going to be open, however, strangely enough I would not encourage people to boycott the stores simply because we associates count on those holiday sales to "meet" the budget goals for the quarter. If the goals aren't met, we usually wind up with reduced hours and no bonuses, and at this time of the year especially we need the extra pay. So, while I do not look forward to working on Thursday, I hope we are packed so I will not have to worry about cut hours come January 1st!

Elisabeth said...

My favorite Thanksgiving dish is green bean casserole! Least favorite is cranberry sauce. :(

Jess said...

There are plenty of places open on holidays; in fact it's one of the biggest days for movie theaters. Fortunately, most employers give time and a half for holidays and I know a handful of people who are grateful to make some extra cash in this economy.

Unknown said...

I work in a call center and most of the people I work with are working the holiday...not fun.
I'm not sure if it's just around here, but Target won't allow Salvation Army bell ringers to stand outside their stores around the holiday either. They say that they distract customers...Giving away spare change distracts costumers?! It's ridiculous...I don't shop there around the holidays for specifically that reason...

Amber said...

That really is a sad situation. Okay, so monday isn't the bastard.. target is!

Unknown said...

yes this. For Target to make their employees come in on the ONE DAY of the year where families are supposed to get together and sit down and have dinner, just maddens me to no end. But like another commenter said, it isn't only Target. It's sad what this holiday is coming to!

Unknown said...

As someone who has worked through numerous holidays because of retail and waitress jobs I am all for this! I feel so sad for the people who have to miss Thanksgiving dinners and the families who miss a loved one on these holidays. I suppose there are people who don't celebrate thanksgiving or people who don't mind working and hopefully they get priority over Thanksgiving shifts. I also live in hope that they get a big fat overtime cheque for working them as well!

My-cliffnotes said...

I have to work the holiday ;(

Kimberly H said...

My grandma's stuffing is my favorite! And I totally think the Messy Project giveaway should be a regular thing :) Also agreed about stores being ridiculous. I wish people would really all band together and decide not to go for the sake of employees who don't get to see their families, just so the big corporation can make a buck. So sad.

The Sweetest Thing said...

That is ridiculous - I mean... it'll give me something to do I guess. But not fair to those employees!

Kristine@thefoleyfam said...

My fav is my mom's wonton soup and the least... oh heck no I don't have one! :)

Carrie Robinson said...

My favorite dish has to be the pumpkin pie or maybe the marshmallow topped sweet potatoes? ;) My least favorite? Salad. No salad at Thanksgiving! ;)

Nicole said...

I'm so with you on the whole target thing. But what's sad is Walmart doesn't even close down. Walmart seems to be big around here, I live in middle america... lol, grocery stores, what are those... but anyway a couple years ago there was a nurse walking through Walmart who was complaining that they shut down for Christmas. She was like why should they, I have to work Christmas. There's a difference between public service and retail though! but I guess Food-4-Less (an actual grocery store, we don't have many of them), they don't shut down at all on Christmas.

fave is turkey, least fave is stuffing! bleeeeurgh.

I think it is ridiculous that they are opening on Thursday! I would rather pay full price on something then to support them making employees work on a holiday! My favorite is bean casserole my least favorite is sweet potatoes

Great giveaway!

I don't understand why Target is open. I guess it is because they now sell food. When I worked at Vons (or Safeway) I worked every holiday even Christmas because I store was open. It is amazing how many people go shopping because they forget stuff though.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Melissa Boo said...

My question is how many of the higher ups that said hey, we're gonna open on Thursday, mmmmkay are going to work on Thursday. *crickets*

Yeah, that's what I thought.

It's ridiculous. Soon Thanksgiving won't even exist.

Chelsea said...

My favorite is mashed potatoes and gravy and my least favorite is green bean casserole!

Kate said...

My favorite is any of the pies... does that count? lol. Least favorite is the green bean casserole.
